DEADLIGHT REVIEW FOR XBOX LIVE ARCADE!

DeadLight an exclusive title for Xbox live arcade by Tequila Works. I first saw and got to play a demo of this game at Pax East earlier this year. I was right away amazed by the visual aspect of this game, it was simply beautiful. It was one of the few Xbox Live games that there was a line for to play. I been waiting for months for DeadLight to release and lucky us we got our hands on this bad boy a week early. We are in a little era right now where we are seeing more and more zombie movies , shows and games so how does one stand out from one another?

DeadLight may have figured that out , DeadLight focuses on the environment and the players surroundings rather then the individual?character or zombie.?DeadLight is set in the 1980?s after a Zombie apocalypse hits. You play as Randall Wayne an average man trying to make his way to reconnect with his wife and daughter. This?2D zombie filled environment tells the story of the world we now leave in set in Seattle. Because?the game doesn?t focus on the main character or zombies visuals you are always immersed in the environment. Randall must run, jump and climb his way to survival without being killed by zombies (called Shadows) only armed with a fireman?s axe and a gun which bullets are scarce. Running sometimes is your best bet when in crowds of zombies are around, firing your gun can sometimes attract more zombies. Throughout the game you will find pages of Randell?s diary that really help the story have more depth, you can flip thru the pages and learn more about his thoughts and his past. Along with the dairy there are many flashbacks (some playable) that give you clues to Randall?s past and show you his struggle to stay sane. The cutscenes in DeadLight are that of a well drawn comic book that give you a better look at Randall and the Shadows. The artistic level of this game from cutscene to in game is just ?brilliant and the story keeps you entertained throughout the game.

The controls for the game are very simple for any person to pick up and play. There are parts that become somewhat frustrating for the novice player not knowing where to jump or climb but that is what makes the game challenging. DeadLight takes every advantage of the games environment to get you thru or over where you need to go. Things like putting out fires , setting off car alarms or slamming cars on zombies to help you make it thru the game. There are moments in the game where you have time to figure out your next move and there are other times where you need to haul ass. Because of the way the game is designed you don?t always look like your average ?Hero? or ?Tough? guy, sometimes you just have Run Baby Run. But when you do go toe to toe with a zombie its game on, nothing like cutting or shooting the head off a zombie.

Overall DeadLight did not disappoint, it was a fun experience that looked amazing. My only complaint is the game was on the short side, saying that though DeadLight has a good replay value which makes it worth buying. So if you love Zombies filled apocalyptic stories, this is worth checking out. DeadLight is available only on Xbox live arcade for 1200 Microsoft points.
