Colorado State University - Pueblo opens 2012-13 academic year with move in, orientation

PUEBLO ?Back to school events for faculty, staff, and students begin over the next few weeks at Colorado State University ? Pueblo as the first day of class for the Fall 2012 Semester approaches on Monday, Aug. 20. Departmental and college faculty meetings began on Monday (August 13) as faculty returned to the start the Fall semester. As part of the University?s back-to-school events, CSU-Pueblo President Lesley Di Mare greeted new and returning faculty and staff.?

Student move in begins on Wednesday, August 15, which also marks the beginning of a mandatory, three-day Student Orientation? led by the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management to help students successfully make the transition to CSU-Pueblo and encourage current students to stay involved on campus. Orientation begins with New Student Convocation at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in Massari Arena with remarks by President Di Mare, Interim Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management Bruce Gifford, and Associated Students? Government President Logan Gogarty. The event will conclude with motivational speaker Jon Vroman.

Parents and family members are invited to participate in their own Orientation on Wednesday,? (Convocation, Parent & Family Orientation, and Campus BBQ), and optional free boat rides at the Pueblo Riverwalk from 10- a.m. ? noon on Thursday, August 16. Faculty and staff will have an opportunity to take in a variety of workshops throughout the week, including updates on veterans benefits, the degree audit system, and new student programs like the Honors Program, RAGE (Regional Access to Graduate Education) and PROPEL (Providing Opportunities to Excel).

A brown bag lunch on Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. in the LARC 108 will feature presentations by the 2012 recipients of the Faculty Teaching (John O?Connor), Scholarly Activity (Brian Vanden Heuval), Mentoring (Carol Foust) and Service Awards (Mike Mincic) as they share their enthusiasm and techniques.

Campus and community organizations will welcome students back to town at the Student Involvement/Employment Festival from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22.? Student organizations, university departments, and community vendors will be involved in the day?s activities. Businesses and individuals interested getting involved with the festival may obtain a registration form by calling Student Activities at 549-2151 or visiting www.colostate-pueblo.edu/wpw. The festival is open to the Pueblo community.
